A useful update says what happened and what is needed next: “The bank statement arrived. Please check the missing July transaction.”
Add a follower
Link to section: Add a followerUse Add follower in the task to include someone who needs updates. Check the people-to-be-notified message when it appears. The Assignee remains the person responsible for doing the task.

Review history
Link to section: Review historySwitch between comments and all activity to understand changes to the task. Read the task’s visibility message before making it public or private.
Check whether the task was opened
Link to section: Check whether the task was openedThe All activity tab shows a Task viewed line for every other member who opened the task, at the time they last opened it. This tells you whether the person you assigned has opened it since. If the line is later than the assignment, they opened it after being assigned.
- Only opening the task itself, for at least a moment, on a tab that is on screen, counts. Clicking quickly past the task, seeing it in a list, or reading a notification about it does not.
- Everyone who can see the task sees these lines. You do not see your own.
- A view is not an update: it sends no notification and does not mark the task as active.
- Opening only means the task was shown. To know the person understood what is needed, ask them to reply.
