Manage sort codes

A sort code is a group in the chart of accounts. It controls how cards are grouped and where new keys in that group start.

  1. In the client file choose Bookkeeping → Sort codes.
  2. The table lists every group: code, name, details, first key, and next key.
  3. Search by code or name. Opening a row shows the detail page.

On the detail page you can change the name, details, first key, next key, and padding. The code itself stays after creation. The first key is a hint for new cards, not a limit: any free key up to 15 characters is accepted. A sort code imported from a file without a first key numbers a new card right after the highest numeric key in the group; you can set a first key at any time.

Choose New sort code, enter a code, name, and first key, then save. After saving, the new group’s detail page opens.

You can also create a sort code from New ledger account in the chart of accounts when you need a new group while creating a card. Read the chart of accounts guide.
