Import clients and contacts
Ask an office administrator to handle an import if the action is unavailable to you.
Import a file
Link to section: Import a file- Open Clients or Contacts. Open the import/export menu and choose Import spreadsheet.
- Check the import type, whether to create or update records, and the fields used to match existing records. Select a CSV or Excel file.
- In the wide preview, check the suggested mapping in each column header. Search for the destination field in that header, or skip the column. The original heading and sample values remain visible together.
- Choose the rows to include. Use the page controls to inspect more rows. Assigning a field to another column removes its previous assignment.
- Go back if you need to change the import options or choose the file again.
- Validate the selected rows. Review matches, changes, and errors, then start the import only when the result is correct.
Check the outcome
Link to section: Check the outcomeRead the created, updated, skipped, and failed counts. Open a few imported clients and contacts to check names, identifiers, and links. You can review import history under Settings → Imports.
A preview is not a completed import. A partly successful import is not a reason to upload everything again without checking the result.
Avoid common problems
