Choose an expense classification

A classification tells Office how an expense should be recorded. It may include accounting accounts and recognition settings prepared by your bookkeeper.

  1. Open the expense.
  2. Search the classification picker for the relevant category.
  3. Select the classification that fits the document.
  4. Review the amounts and any posting explanation shown.
  5. Save and continue the approval flow.

Ask the person responsible for bookkeeping to check the client’s Expense classifications. Do not choose an unrelated category just to make an error disappear.

Review classifications, transaction types, and account definitions together. Changing recognition percentages or account mappings changes how future work is recorded. Use the preview before applying changes.

Office settings also contain reusable card and classification templates. Check that a template suits this client’s bookkeeping method before using it.
